Cost of Living Crisis affects Eyecare
A Survey by the College of Optometrists has revealed that 22% of British people have postponed or cancelled a sigh test in the past year due to cost concerns and 50% of people said that the cost of living would impact on how they care for their eyes in the future.
In addition 21% had not had a sight test in 5 years or more.
The survey highlighted the low awareness of NHS funding for sight tests
Only 50% of people were aware that the NHS will fund sight tests for anyone under 16
40% of people were aware that anyone over 60 was eligible for an NHS sight test
If you are diabetic, have glaucoma, or are over 40 and have a close relative with glaucoma you are also eligible for an NHS funded Sight Test
Approximately 70% of our patients are eligible for an NHS funded Sight Test.
With eye health, early detection of eye problems is very important.
With children especially there maybe limited time to correct any issues.
If spectacles are required, anyone under 19 in full-time education and adults on certain benefits will be able to get an NHS voucher towards the cost of their spectacles.
