Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis

August 01, 20221 min read

Plantar fasciitis (PF) is the inflammation of the connective tissue around the sole of the foot.

It is characterised by sharp stabbing pain under the heel, especially first thing in the morning, or when you stand up after sitting for a while.

This connective tissue is there to help maintain the shape of the foot, as well as to propel you forward in walk.

But over usage of this tissue can cause small tears, which may lead to inflammation and pain.

Several things put you at a higher risk of developing PF, including:

✳️ Certain exercises - Long distance running, Ballet etc

✳️ Foot mechanics - Flat feet, high arch, different weight distribution

✳️ Obesity

✳️ Occupations that require you to stand for long hours

Ignoring PF can lead to chronic pain in the heels which may affect daily activities as well as causing compensation elsewhere in the body, such as the hips or back.

If you suspect you have developed PF, it is important to address it quickly, before it causes more complications.
